About Us

I’ve been scared stiff of heights ever since I can remember. Standing on a chair gets the whole room spinning around like a circus carousel.

There are times when this can be embarrassing. Last year we were in the fabulous city of Barcelona. Our daughter, who was living there at the time, took us to the Gaudi Gardens.

We wound our way up the pathway to the very top of the hill, marvelling at the creativity of this beautiful and unusual spectacle.

Right at the pinnacle of the gardens there is a stone mound about 15 feet high. Steps lead up to the top that is about 10 feet across. From this vantage point you get fabulous views across the whole city.

Encouraged by my daughter I mounted the stone steps that wind around the mound. With each upward step I became more nervous and agitated. There was a sheer drop to the ground below. There were no railings or safety barriers!

By the time I got to the top I was feeling physically sick. The whole world was spinning. I could hardly see the city spread out below. One thought filled my mind – “get me out of here!”

My wife and daughter sat on the edge of the mound, dangling their feet dangerously over the sheer drop. I hastened to the safety of terra firma. They looked down and jeered at me, shouting out that it was, “safe as houses”.

It’s easy for those who are not afflicted with vertigo to jeer at others. They don’t think about the hurt they are causing.

The Search for a Cure

I made up my mind that I didn’t want to suffer any more. The feeling that I was a coward was unbearable. I must find a solution.

The upshot of my quest was that I eventually got to see an ear specialist who told me that I have Subjective Vertigo, a problem with the inner ear balance mechanisms. He offered three courses of action: drugs, surgery or Vestibular Rehabilitation.

Vestibular Rehabilitation Therapy is not as bad as it sounds, it simply involves doing a series of exercises a couple of times a day. These range from eye movement exercises to standing on one foot with your eyes closed.

However, the part of this journey of exploration that grabbed my attention was the role that the brain played in making the necessary readjustments between what my eyes were seeing and the interpretation that my brain was putting on the information coming in through my eyes.

I started to ask myself a whole lot of questions about how my brain worked. For instance, how does it interpret the difference between what I see and what I visualise in my mind’s eye?

Can the Similar Techniques Work For Weight Loss?

This line of thinking led me to wonder if I could achieve my weight loss target by visualising my body slim and well toned? The thought really excited me.

I started to experiment with visualisation. As I mastered different techniques it made the whole business of losing weight much easier.

As soon as I had a mental image of the way I wanted my body to look other parts of my system adapted to what I was trying to do. I found I was drawn quite naturally to want certain types of food and to reject other, less healthy foods.

The same thing happened with exercise. I found that I wanted to exercise more. I started, quite spontaneously, to do exercises that toned up my muscles.

The whole effort to lose weight began to happen quite easily and spontaneously.

If This Works for Weight Loss Can It Work For Other Things?

That’s when I began to experiment with attracting other things into my life using the power of visualisation. I became an avid student of The Law of Attraction and learned how to make miracles happen in my life.

Now, I don’t know about you, but I find books on dieting somewhat boring. So I decided to write the story of my journey to a slimmer body and greater happiness and prosperity as a romantic novel.

You may be pleased to hear that I am not the hero of my novel, but the techniques that the main characters use to lose weight, attract the partners of their dreams, become wealthy and successful, are the actual techniques I have discovered to be highly effective.

I’ve called the book All I Ask, because it is about how people can get all the things they ask for. You can read Chapter 1 online now simply by clicking this link to All I Ask.

Here’s a sensible way think about your waist.

You do want a trim figure, don’t you?

OK then, let’s talk about food. I believe that the best way to lose weight and keep it off forever is to eat yourself slim – here’s how…

Summer foods, like fruit and salads contain far fewer calories than winter foods like pies and puddings. So that’s a positive “hint” about what to eat.

Then there’s your body; more of it is visible when you wear your summer clothes. This means that the incentive to trim and tone your body is much greater in the hot months.

These are two powerful reasons why it is more sensible to make July 4th your Good Slimming Resolution Day - much better than January 1.

But there’s a more practical reason to start slimming in the summer.

It’s this - when you spend the summer months eating loads of salad, fruits, nuts, whole-grains, fish and lean meats, guess what will happen?

Eating healthy foods will become a habit.

And that is the secret of a permanently slim figure.

This is what’s been happening to me over the last three months. I discovered, quite by accident, that I could easily wean myself off white bread, that has no nutritional value, butter, fatty cold meats and burgers.

Simply by changing my daily menus and starting to eat healthy grilled fish, muesli, salads and fresh fruit the pounds started to melt away.

It has amazed me how many new things I have found to eat. I make a different salad for my lunch every day. I vary between, tuna, salmon, bean, soft cheese, sardine, egg and anchovy, to name but a few.

Replacing coffee with green tea seems to have created real benefits. I suspect it’s doing without the milk I used to put in coffee that has worked the miracle on my waist. The total saving is about 2 pints of milk a week.

Water is the best drink for slaking your thirst. When you get hot and thirsty, drink water. After a few times you’ll find that water tastes really good and it is the perfect accompaniment for every sort of food.

The biggest benefit of drinking water is that you don’t drink sodas or colas that contain a lot of sugars. Think of all that sugar turning to fat on your butt!

A real blessing about starting to slim in the summer is the wonderful array of summer fruits that just keep coming on stream. Strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, cherries, blackcurrants, grapes are all amazingly low in calories. You can eat copious quantities with virtually now damage to your waistline.

Beware the cream – that will do serous damage to the figure!

I think I would have lost a lot more weight, more quickly if I hadn’t been doing quite so many exercises. But I really enjoy my “home gym” exercises and they have definitely toned up my muscles. I feel stronger and more energetic as a result. The trade-off for being more muscular is that the muscle you put on weighs more than the fat you have taken off. You look better but you don’t lose weight quite so fast.

But, it’s worth it because you feel so much fitter and more confident.

I signed the Slim Pledge on May 20th and I’m now 17 pounds lighter and a whole lot fitter. I know this to be true because I am much faster round the tennis court and I don’t puff and blow after a hard point.

My overall conclusion is that slimming is more mental and emotional than it is physical. The real battleground is between your mind and your stomach.

Some days I get very insistent messages from my stomach at regular intervals saying, ”I’m hungry!” And then it will qo quiet for a few days to lull my mind into a false sense of victory, before coming back even more strongly and vociferously.

That’s when I use my self-hypnosis and breathing exercises, but more about them in another article.

For today I just want you to start thinking about making July 4th your Slim Down Resolution Day.

I just did a whole lot more research. It threw up some fascinating and useful information. But what’s likely to work best for you?

Did you know that there are over 9 million pages on Google that deal with Slimming and related issues.

You can actually buy slimming body armour! (That was a new one on me.) And slimming swimsuits, underwear, dresses and corsets all seem to have good followings.

As you might imagine products you can consume to lose weight are popular. Slimming pills, slimming teas, slimming tablets, diet sodas and drinks of all sorts proliferate in the market.

Then there are exercises to lose weight, exercise equipment and special exercise clothing ranges.

Slimming magazines are some of the biggest selling publications in the world.

What this proliferation of products tells us is that there is huge demand from people who would like a slimmer body.

Think It Through With Me

What all this demand is really telling us is two very simple things:

1. People believe that slimmer is more attractive and they want to look attractive.
2. People want to fit the “attractive norm” in order to feel good about themselves and their position in society.

So they want to be slimmer in order to look better in the eyes of other people, and feel better and more confident in themselves.

Please take note that what we are talking about here is a Mental Picture “to look attractive” and a Feeling “feel good about themselves.”

The look and the feeling are the best motivations for losing weight. And really strong motivation is what you need in order to create your ideal body.

The issue you have with your body is mental, emotional and physical.

Surveys Show That Short Cuts do NOT Work

According to The US National Institutes of Health Survey, 95 – 98% of people who lose weight by dieting gain all the weight back within 5 years.

What more proof do you need before you realize that if you want your body to be slim, and it is currently overweight, you are going to have to DO something to change your body?

The reasons why pills, diets, teas and diet drinks do not work is simple. They are short term fixes for a long term issue.

You may be able to lose a few pounds by taking XYZ pills or only drinking carrot juice or tea for 2 months, but the moment you slip back into your old eating and drinking habits the weight will come back.

This Knowledge is Useful

Once you have established that it is your current eating and drinking habits that have caused you to gain weight you have very valuable data. You know the cause of your body being the way it is.

Therefore the solution is simple; change what you eat and drink.

“Ah, but if I change I won’t be able to go out with my friends any more.”

“I have a very busy life, I have to grab snacks when I can. I know they’re not always the healthiest, but….”

These two excuses come up time and time again. So you have to make a choice: do you want a slim body or not?

If you do then you’re going to have to behave a little differently when you’re with your friends. You’re also going to have to plan your meals better.

I have now been on my weight loss campaign for 70 days. I still go to the pub twice a week. I have been to several parties, social gatherings and dinners. It is a cast iron fact that I have not lost one single friend in the last 10 weeks.

OK sometimes (not always) I am drinking sparkling water when others are drinking beer or wine and it felt a little odd at first, but now I am accustomed to it and feel somewhat smug inside from knowing that I am the one with the willpower.

And, of course, I have lost weight, so I look and feel better.

The Good Feelings Come From Genuine Success

I do not believe that I would get good feelings about myself and what I have achieved, if my new appearance was the result of wearing tighter under-garments, or a special slimming belt, or all-black clothing. The good feeling comes from the knowledge that I have achieved success by taking proper care of my body.

It may be your way to take pills. Personally I am always concerned about potential side effects and I will do anything to avoid drugs. They will only come into my consideration when my life is threatened and I am forced to believe that they are the only way to preserve quality of life.

Superman Willpower

Yes, I do occasionally get tempted to snack and eat between meals. And, yes, I do sometimes feel like missing out on my morning exercises. And after dinner mints can seem irresistible.

That is when I retreat into my self-hypnosis and shut out the temptation. Hypnosis has been a friend and helper over the past weeks. It has a strong track record of enabling people to change habits (like kicking smoking). It has certainly proved invaluable to me.

Hypnosis reminds me of my targets, my self image and my strength of mind. I often find I have willpower even when I don’t want it and would rather give in and eat a chocolate bar. You can try out weight loss hypnosis at our online Hypnothon on June 1.
